Hello, my name is Iolanthe ("Lannie" for short). I'm a writer, and at the moment I'm suspended in that delightful/dreadful limbo waiting on tenterhooks while Honorable Agent submits my debut novel to the publishing houses (including Mr. Armstrong's Kunati Books... <ahem>) The title is She's My Dad, and for want of a better description I call it a "literate social thriller", which means it has elements of humor, suspense, women's and literary fiction all rolled up into a nifty and readable story. (Or, alternatively, a Byzantine mishmash of cross-genre hybridization. It depends on one's outlook, I suppose.)

Although the subject matter is very contemporary (my title character, like me, is a transsexual woman) I am more of a traditional writer, eschewing fashionable stylistic/verbal fireworks in favor of sober-sided traditional storytelling. Of course that may tag me as irredeemably old-fashioned and "square" (do people still say that? I’m 58 and clueless) but nonetheless I’ve made every effort to not only entertain, but offer some food for thought along the way. I’m hopeful of getting my book published, but also realistic, and very aware of the daunting challenges facing newbie writers. Que sera, sera; meanwhile, I’m 20K words into my next novel, which is completely different in every way.

So anyway, it’s nice to meet anyone who’s here (echo with the sounds of silence) and I wish everyone the best of luck with their projects.

Hi Lannie ~

I came here to meet new friends and trade ideas, also. What I found was a site where it seems like NOBODY comments ! If you're like me, you find that a little discouraging. So...... I'm sending you my best in your publishing endeavor. GOOD LUCK !!

I'm thinking that maybe we can liven this place up... invite more frustrated authors, post more comments, etc. What do you think ?

Hello, Ramsey! I'm pleased to meet you, and it's something of a relief to hear from someone, since I was beginning to wonder whether this was a ghost site.

I'm all for livening the place up. Surely there can be no shortage of frustrated writers! Some of the other sites have thousands of members. (Come to think of it, that might represent a rather horrible quantity of frustration... don't think I'll go there.)

Thanks for the good wishes, that's most gracious of you. What a long and difficult process it is, trying to get published! First the spiritually draining agent hunt, and then the endless waiting, waiting, waiting for publishers' responses. Without question, anyone who wants to be a writer needs to have their head examined. (I did, and what they found was... well, that's another story.)

So anyway, maybe some of the others will jump in, once they notice signs of life. And if not, well, we'll just have the whole place to ourselves!

Have a great evening,

Lannie
