Aspiring writer - trying to determine whether pursuing....

Hi

Basically have been reading for what like seems forever. Have a few favourite authors mainly in the horror genre but can branch out to people like Wilbur Smith and a few fantasy novelists like Pullman, Carroll, Lewis, as well as the classics like Milton, Dante etc.

I've been toying with starting a book for what seems like years, so I finally penned a first chapter, but I'd really like a few people to read through it, see if I'm making any unprofessional errors and just give me a heads up.

I haven't done any creative writing courses etc. just read for ages and think I can put something together, certainly have the ideas to do so. Not too sure what the etiquette is here, so going to have a look round and see if I can find submission guidelines and other bits of help etc.
